Animal Welfare

All animals, of which we are one species, are sentient.  This means we feel pain, fear, grief, joy and happiness and build relationships with one another.  Despite this, non-human animals suffer daily in the name of agriculture, beauty, sport, entertainment and scientific research.  It is said that New Zealand has some of the best animal welfare legislation in the world yet its enforcement is significantly lacking.

Fiona has been a vegetarian since she was 5 but it took her years to learn the truth about the dairy industry, so she has only been vegan more recently.  Her paintings celebrate the sentience of animals and in so doing highlight the suffering they endure.

"The more we understand, the more informed choices we make for a kinder and more compassionate world.  In the words of Marian Wright Edelman:

'You really can change the world if you care enough.'"

20% of the proceeds from the sale of giclee prints is donated to SAFE For Animals (Save Animals From Exploitation), New Zealand's leading animal advocacy organisation.
