Fiona Goulding was born in England. Inspired by voluntary work undertaken in Africa, she spent several years travelling through India, Nepal, Australia and New Zealand. It was the sheer beauty and variety of the New Zealand landscape which drew her to making this country her home.
Fiona is entirely self-taught and it is easy to see why her work is often described as 'exquisite'. Her finely executed oil paintings are influenced by the unequivocal beauty found in nature and the connection she feels with this. She loves to get immersed in nature's detail: its sculptural qualities, nuances of colour and affect of light. Although inspired by Realism, particularly the Dutch artist, Gerrit Dou, she prefers her inspiration to come directly from her own findings and responses to her environment.

Fiona is passionate about conservation and animal welfare. Many of her paintings can be purchased as high quality fine art giclee prints with 20% of each sale being donated directly to a conservation society.
Fiona is the first New Zealand member of Artists for Conservation (AFC), formerly the Worldwide Nature Artists Group (WNAG). It is a non-profit, international organization dedicated to the celebration and preservation of the natural world. The Foundation represents the world's leading collective of nature artists and an unparalleled pool of artistic talent focused on nature. The organization's mission is to support wildlife and habitat conservation, biodiversity, sustainability and environmental education through art that celebrates our natural heritage.
"Being able to combine my passion for animal welfare and the natural world with my passion for painting has given me a sense of purpose. Every painting is a lesson for me, not only in technique but in learning more about the subject matter, particularly birds and animals and the threats they face”.
Fiona has won awards nationally and internationally, most recently the International Palm Art Awards 2020. Her work has been exhibited and collected both in New Zealand and overseas and has been featured in publications both online and in print.

"I came home to your exquisite paintings tonight – I really can’t find the words to express how beautiful they are..... They evoke, for me, such wonderful feelings of freedom and space and light..... I will treasure them always." K. Lee, New Zealand |
