The Sumatran Tiger is critically endangered due to deforestation and extensive poaching for the sale of tiger parts and products. Despite conservation efforts which includes strengthening law enforcement for anyone caught hunting tigers, a substantial market remains in Sumatra and other parts of Asia for the tiger.
This painting was created for donation to an exhibition in London in aid of conservation called 'Explorers Against Extinction'. It shows a young Sumatran tiger cub focusing intently on following his mother's path. It considers the question 'how long will the cub be able to follow its mother before her path becomes nothing more than footprints as the species is hunted to extinction?'
